In the Front Yard

This lovely lady payed us a visit a few weeks ago.

And how do I know it was a lady - because she layed eggs (Connor counted 31) right in our garden.

We stayed our distance from her - she was a snapping turtle and we don't care to be losing any fingers around here. Also, we did not think it wise to interfere with her process.

She dug a nice hole and took her time dropping all of those eggs in. After she buried those 31 eggs she found her way back to the lake. We were a little concerned at first that she was not going in the right direction, but eventually she figured things out - instinct I suppose.

It is kind of sad to think that she will never see her babies, but we look forward to maybe catching a glimpse of them this fall.
